BREAKING NEWS ON THE FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE SITUATION IN SA: The movement of all #cattle is prohibited for a period of 28 days, with effect from tomorrow, 16 August. This follows a meeting this evening between role-players in the livestock industry, and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, chaired by the Director general, Mooketsa Ramasodi. Cattle may however be transported for slaughter purposes, with the necessary permits. Other cloven-hoofed animals (including game) may be moved, but with great caution, confirms Francois Knowles, registrar of Agricultural Produce Agents Council. A government gazette containing more information regarding the restriction will be published on 16 August. More info will follow on Plaas TV  and RSG Landbou.
